Setting off early from Dunedin we travel south and stop at Balclutha for breakfast.
We head for Nugget Point and walk to the lighthouse with views over the ocean and down onto beaches filled with seals.
Further along the coast we walk along the beach (for miles!) to see seals resting on the sand. The promise of seeing sea lions is misplaced however!
We travel further and walk to a small waterfall (Purakaunui falls). Some bigger falls beckon but we are running out of time so we set the sat nav for Te Anau.
Miles of flat, featureless landscape follows, only becoming interesting as we approach Te Anau.
Find some fuel (in desperate need by now), the campsite and the shops. End up carrying our grocery bags into a restaurant and have a lovely meal of rack of lamb.
